William C. Smith was born in Pennsylvania of Irish heritage. His first wife, Mary HANNA/HANNAH, was the mother of at least six of his children: James D. Smith, Hannah Smith, Robert H. Smith, Belle/Isabelle Smith, Jesse Smith and a daughter who was born about 1837. His second wife, Lily WALCH, had two children by her first marriage then was the mother to five more: William Thompson Smith, Florinda A. Smith, Mary Jane Smith, David Clifford Smith and Homer Smith who was born in 1849 but died young.
