Pioneer dies at Aredale Saturday
Aredale-Alfred David Allen
David Allen, son of Wesley and Melissa Allen, was born October 30, 1866 near Hansell. He passed away at his home in Aredale, Saturday, May 22.
He was married December 24, 1941 to Charlotte Ray. To this union were born 7 children, 2 daughters and 1 son having died in infancy. One niece reared as a daughter passed away July 27, 1939. He leaves his wife, 2 daughters, Alfreda Muir and Anna Uhlenhopp of Aredale, 2 sons, Ray Allen of Aredale and Darrel Allen of Naperville, Illinois. 13 grandchildren, 4 great grand children, 1 sister, Mrs. J. R. Gilson of Hampton and 1 brother, Frank Allen of Cedar Rapids.
Mr. Allen was a charter member of the Grace Evangelical Church of Aredale. He served his church with deepest devotion and in a number of ways. His fine contribution to the life of the community is well known to all his friends. He was president of the Harlan cemetery association for 30 years.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home and at 2:30 at the Grace Evangelical Church . Burial was at Harlan Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Dale Allen, Dallas Allen, Lester Allen, Lowell Allen, David Muir, Allen Uhlenhopp.
