NAME: Allen, Walter Leland (m. Martha Lewis) OBIT: Walter Leland Allen was born near Janesville, Bremer county, Iowa, January 2nd 1852. He departed this life March 7th 1904 aged fifty two years, two months and five days. Was united in marriage to Miss Martha Lewis January 23rd 1873, his wife dying December 25th 1875. There were two children from this union, a boy and girl. The boy died in his fancy (infancy) and the daughter is now Mrs. John Williams. Besides Mrs. Williams there mourn his loss four brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter. The brothers are; J. W. of Geneva, William of Aredale, D. C. of Blair, Nebraska, and Marion of Texas. The sisters are Mrs. Nathan Harlen of Aredale and Mrs. Ester Morris of Ridgway, Colorado. Mr. Allen was not a member of any church but gave evidence that he was prepared to go. He was an advocate of the Old School Primative Baptist faith. The funeral service was held at the Methodist church in this city last Wednesday. Rev. E. A. Norton of Hampton preached the sermon and the remains were laid to rest in the Harlen cemetery to await the resurection morning. |
