NAME: Benesh, Marie (m. Frederick Hubel)
OBIT: (d. 1911, Toledo, Iowa)
Wednesday evening, September 20, Mrs. Fred Hubel of Vining ruptured a blood vessel and soon thereafter lay cold in death. She had been in quiet conversation with other members of her family and her sudden death was a grievous shock to all.
Marie Benesh was born in Kraj-Chrudim, Bohemia, 65 years ago. When 11 years old she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Benesh to America. They came to Tama county and settled in York township. There their daughter grew into womanhood and in 1866 was united in the sacrament of matrimony with Fred Hubel, and the young couple began house keeping on their farm near Vining. Of the 9 children who blessed the home two died in infancy. The living are Mesdames Mary Thompson and Anna Cline and Miss Agnes Hubel of Toledo; Mrs. Blanche Stransky of Elberon; Peter and Joseph of Vining, and Fred whose location is unknown to the home folks. Besides the husband and children left to mourn her death there is one brother Francis Benesh, who moved but recently to Sierra Madre, California. The death of his only sister is sad news, indeed, to him.
Mrs. Hubel was ever a strong personage, firm in her convictions of right and justice, a kind mother and faithful wife. She bore the respect of the entire community.
The funeral services were held, Friday, at Petranek Catholic church. Rev. Father Dragoun read requiem mass and conducted the services. The remains were laid at rest in the cemetery near the church. May she rest in peace.
Present from abroad at the services were Lloyd Thompson and family, Fred Cline and wife, Chas. Benesh and wife, Emil Benesh, Agnes Hubel, Frank Weaver Sr. and wife, Frank Weaver Jr. and wife, Toledo; Wm. Hubel, Ft. Dodge; Mrs. Anna Drahos, Cedar Rapids.
