Lester Coulter
MUSCATINE - Lester Vernon Coulter, 78, of 1605 First Ave., died Thursday, July 24, 1997, at his home.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. Sharon Lacey will officiate. Burial, with military rites conducted jointly by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be at the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Coulter was born on May 14, 1919, in Muscatine, the son of John Otis and Lilly Cozad Coulter. He married Nellie Mae Steckman on March 19, 1939, in Muscatine.
Following 28 years of employment, he retired from Thatcher Plastics.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge, No. 815, Local 376 International Chemical Workers Union, and a past co-chairman of the United Way.
Survivors include two daughters, Dolly Marie Hays of Bentonville, Ark., and Lillie Mae Oelerich of Muscatine; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, in 1967; eight brothers and sisters and one grandson.
