NAME: Hartzhorn, Eliza J. (m. Nichols Cocks)

 Mrs. Nichols Cox died at her home in Grant last Sunday evening, after an illness since last September.
 Eliza J. Hartzhorn was born in Allen county, Ohio, December 1, 1840, and was united in marriage to Nichols Cox, in Seneca county, N.Y. in 186(3?). After living in Seneca county two years, the young couple came to Grand Rapids, and then to Newaygo county, and with the exception of thirteen years spent in Illinois, they had resided in this county since first coming here.
 Mrs. Cox was well known in Newaygo, having lived here some years ago, and her friends were counted by the number of persons whom she knew. None ever entered her home without a warm welcome, or left without feeling the influence of genuine hospitality. Disease did not destroy the charm of a kind, indulgent disposition and her age did not diminish her unselfish solicitude for her friends and loved ones.
 Besides the husband, she is survived by a family of six grown children.
 Funeral services were held at Grant yesterday afternoon, and the remains were laid to rest in the Ashland cemetery.
