Mrs. Esther Jane Worley died at her home, 315 1/2 Walnut street in Muscatine at 10:15 Thursday morning. Death followed a sickness of nine days with pleuro-pneumonia. She was 82 years old.
Esther Little was born in Columbus Junction on March 10, 1841, and lived there all of her life until the last few months, when she has made her home in Muscatine.
She married Robert Worley in 1855 at Columbus Junction. He was a civil war veteran and preceded her in death by 16 years.
Eleven children were born, five of whom survive. They are: James at home, Louis, 603 East Fifth street, and Bert of Davenport, Mrs. Maggie McCormick and Mrs. Susan Wilcox, both of Muscatine, one sister survives, Mrs. M. Rosenfield of East Sixth street and 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The body was brought to this city Sunday and taken to the funeral home of Gilkey & Son where funeral services were held that afternoon at two o'clock.
On account of the almost impassible condition of the road from here to Columbus City, the hourse drawn hearse was pressed into use and teams were used to convey the friends and mouners to the cemetery and back.
Burial was made in the Tennessee cemetery.
