Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Albuquerque, N.M., for Lloyd Eugene Poland, 56, former Gladbrook resident, who died Wednesday evening, Dec. 28, at a hospital in Albuquerque, where he had been a cancer patient since Nov. 25.
He was born Dec.7, 1921 in Gladbrook, a son of Walter Eugene and Hilda M. Thompson Poland. He received his education and grew to manhood in Gladbrook.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and after being discharged, was employed by the U.S. Government in civil service. On April 17, 1946, he married Arlene Heathcott in Colorad Spring, Col.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania Street Church of Christ, where memorial services were held. Burial was in the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M.
He is survived by his widow; two daughters, Darla Gene Mason of Ft. Worth, Tex., and Jane Poland of Abilene, Tex.; two sons, James Anthony and Jeffrey Robert of Albuquerque, N.M.; his mother, Mrs. Hilda M. Poland of Clarksville; two brothers, Clifford of Rockwell and Richard of Clarksville; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Lawrence, in infancy.
