Echo Hoffman, 84, Centerville, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 1991, in Pioneer Memorial Hospital, Viborg.
Echo Smith was born Oct.10, 1906 in Pocahontas, IA. At age 9 she moved with her family to Spencer and attended Spencer Public Schools.
She married Earl Hoffman May 1, 1926, in Windom MN. They lived in Windom two years and then moved to Farmer and began farming. In 1938 they moved to the Centerville area and continued to farm. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center, Centerville, in June 1989.
She was a member of the Federated Church, Centerville, and was active in the Ladies Aid. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge and past noble grand and state representative for the lodge. She also was a member of Sunshine Club; Royal Neighbors; Kitchen Klatter; South Dakota Orphanage Society Auxiliary; Good Samaritan Center Auxiliary and Needle Club.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Ronald, Dell Rapids; one daughter Mrs. Earl (Maxine) Chandanais, Manitou Springs, CO; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday in Federated Church, Centerville, with burial in Lakeside Cemetery, Spencer.
