HILDA POLAND, 85, BURIED ON MONDAY Funeral services for Mrs. Hilda M. Poland, 85, former Gladbrook resident, were held Monday afternoon, Dec. 24, from the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook, with Rev. Leroy Franz officiating. Burial was made in Crystal Cemetery with Goettsch-Perrin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Poland died at the Clarksville Community Nursing Center on Friday afternoon, Dec. 21, where she had been a resident since 1973.
Hilda was born July 22, 1894, at Toledo, a daughter of Lloyd N. and Mary Hubel Thompson. She received her education in the Toledo schools, graduating from Toledo High School with the class of 1913. She was also a graduate of the Leander Clark Conservatory of Music of Toledo. After graduating from Leander she taught for eight years in the Toledo area rural schools.
On April 21, 1921, she married Walter Poland and the couple made their home in Gladbrook. She was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ, a Charter Member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Grandmothers Club.
Surviving are two sons: Dick Poland of Clarsville and Clifford Poland of Rockwell; one brother, M. R.Thompson of Sun City, Arizona; also eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, and two sons, Lloyd and Lawrence.
