Jonathan DAVIS, the oldest son and child of James DAVIS and Sarah THATCHER was born 12 Dec 1805 in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Jonathan DAVIS first married Charlotte PUGH about 1825 who bore him 11 children. After her death Jonathan married Mary Ann RITTER, 3 Mar 1859 in Owen County, Indiana, and she bore him two children.

Jonathan's father, James DAVIS, was born 6 Mar 1785 in New Jersey. There is a strong possibility that the father of James Davis participated in the Revolutionary War and was of Welsh descendency.
